Description

Turface is fired calcined clay, which is traditionally used as a soil amendment. It is highly porous, lightweight and very durable, making it a great addition to many types of soils and substrates. Turface has been used in Aquatic soils, Bonsai soil, potting plants, garden beds, and even baseball fields.

What is Turface used for

Turface can also be used as a substrate to hatch various reptile and bird eggs. Simply place some clean Turface in a container, create a small divot in the substrate, and gently place your egg onto substrate. Use the incubation method that works best for your animals eggs.

You can add a little water to the substrate to prevent the eggs from drying out. Due to the porous nature of Turface it will help wick just enough water to the surface to keep the eggs healthy, but keep them soaked.

Turface has been successfully used to hatch out healthy baby Crested Geckos, Leopard Geckos, Bearded Dragons, Chameleons, Ball Pythons, plus many other snakes and other reptiles

At Jungle Jewel Exotics we use Turface in our Premium Jungle Soil to improve its effectiveness as a vivarium substrate. It helps improve our substrates ability to manage moisture by helping the soil to drain, yet remain moist.

Turface does not break down in a vivarium in addition to the random size of the particles and irregular shape, it will create small air pockets in the soil which will promote strong root growth and water drainage. For all the above reasons Turface is an excellent substitute for Tree Fern in a traditional ABG Vivarium soil substrate mixture.

You can use Turface to make a Cactus Soil Mix, Orchid Potting Mix, Aroid Potting Mix or Hoya Potting mix. By mixing various ratios or combinations of Reptiscape Coco Coir, Reptiscape Coco Husk Chips, ReptiBark (Fir bark), BioChar (Horticultural Charcoal), Tuface, Perlite, and some Sphagnum Moss you can create a suitable potting mix tailored to your individuals plant’s needs.
