Jungle Jewel Exotics doesn’t stop shipping just because winter gets cold in Canada!! Winter Shipping takes place from approximately October 1st to May 1st or until the average night time temperature is above 10° C. in both Calgary and along the shipping route to your destination

We can Ship your Fruit Flies, Isopods, Springtails, Mosses and other Plants by winterizing our Shipping Boxes. We do this by using ¾” to 1 inch (2-2.5cm) of closed cell sheet insulation. By doing this, a box can maintain a temperature of 10° C from the outside ambient temperature.
When necessary, we will also use appropriate heating pads. Unfortunately regular hand or foot warmers DO NOT work well for winter shipping. These types of warmers get really hot, really fast, but only last a few hours at best. Jungle Jewel Exotics uses heating pads that we designed to last for 40-72 hours. These types of heat pads heat up slower, and maintain stable temperatures for longer. In a 1 cubic foot box these heat pads will increase the internal temperature by approximately 10°.
We may delay a shipment if the outside temperature is colder than -28° C (Day or Night) or we are made aware of an extreme weather warning/blizzard is along the packages route. Unfortunately at those cold temps it doesn’t take long for the extreme cold to overpower the best heat packs. We want your packages to arrive warm and safe just as much as you do!
Winter shipping is a one time additional charge per box shipped. (waived for orders picking up in Calgary, see below) This includes the insulated box, the heat pads, additional shipping charges for a larger box and any additional costs associated with preparing your shipment during the colder months in Canada.
All orders that require winter shipping will depart Calgary Alberta on Monday to Wednesday depending on your location. Please choose the quickest shipping option available to you. BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan can use 1-2 day Express shipping. Ontario, Quebec and other Eastern provinces may need to choose Priority Shipping.
If you select a shipping option that takes longer then a heat pack will normally last, this will delay your order as we will need to contact you to either arrange for the shorter shipping (and associated costs) or cancel and refund your order.
We will select “Hold for pick up” on all live orders shipped with Canada Post. This will hold the package at your nearest Post Office, to reduce further risk.
Live Shipping and Shipping Carriers
When possible, we prefer to use Canada Post for all shipments with live goods. This allows us to select “Hold for Pick Up” And they will deliver to your nearest Post office.
Unfortunately, Canada Post and their Union have been unreliable over the years with multiple strikes. As such we have included UPS or FedEx as carriers. Unfortunately, they will leave your package with live good on the door step. If you are not home to accept the package, this may cause DOA.
None of the carriers offer a live arrival guarantee, thus we can’t either. Shipping live goods is at the risk of the customer.
We will do our absolute best to get your package to you safe and alive. We have been shipping all over Canada durring the winter since 2014 and are very experienced, with a low DOA. However their are so many variables outside of our control, more on that below.

Pick up orders in Calgary
We will waive the “Winterizing Fee” for all orders that are arranged to be picked up in Calgary Alberta.
We love shipping during Winter Chinooks in Alberta! Special exceptions to waive the Winterizing Fee can be made for orders shipping to Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Lethbridge and their surrounding areas during exceptional warm and long lasting Chinooks with overnight temperatures that remain above +10° C (overnight temps as well) Please contact us to see if you can qualify for this exception, prior to placing your order.
No Live Shipping during the peak holiday season.
Shipping demands are EXTREMELY high during Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the weeks leading up to Christmas as well as the early weeks of the new year. As such we will NOT ship any live goods between approx November 23-December 5th and again December 15th to Jan 15th. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause. There are SO MANY delays that we can not in good conscience, ship any live goods during that time.

Final notes on Winter Shipping
Jewel Exotics reserves the right to refuse any shipment that has the incorrect shipping option or will take too long to reach its final destination. You will be contacted and a full refund will be issued. During extreme weather we may delay the shipment until it is safe to ship again. Jungle Jewel Exotics cannot be held liable for delays in shipping due to and not limited to Holidays, Postal Strikes, Extreme Weather (hot or cold), Shipment back logs by the carrier, lost or stolen packages, mislabeled packaging, wrong addresses given, War, Pandemic and any other unforeseen circumstances not listed.
No live guarantee is offered on any live shipment including all Insects, Crustaceans, Moss or other Plants. By making payment you are accepting these terms and conditions and understand that no refund may be issued.
