Ranarium Rana-A is is a super high Vitamin A supplement to help prevent “hypovitaminosis” in your amphibians.
An adequate amount of Vitamin A is required for immune function, reproduction, and cellular communication. There are basically two forms for Vitamin A: preformed Vitamin A (i.e. retinol) and provitamin A carotenoids. Rana- A is formulated with a high “retinol” Vitamin A concentration for your amphibians along with some other superfoods.
Amphibians can not synthesize provitamin, which often results in an increased risk of Vitamin A deficiency among domestic populations.
Vitamin A deficiency was first described within the dart frog community as “Short Tongue Syndrome” because frogs would have shorter than normal tongues . More recently, deficiency of this essential micro-nutrient is more accurately referred to as ‘Hypovitaminosis’. Numerous studies show the lack of Vitamin A causes poor vision, inability to catch prey (due to short tongue and poor vision), poor reproductive success, reduced offspring survival and immune system dysfunction. For example, immune dysfunction could be suspected if there is repeated poor egg development.
A balanced diet and proper amount of Vitamin A has been known to play an important role in limb regeneration is some amphibians such as salamanders and newts.
The use of Ranarium’s proprietary Rana A supplement should be considered an essential and proactive component of on-going dietary management whereby increasing the potential for the best health possible for your amphibian pets.
How to use Ranarium Rana-A
Vitamin A should be given to your amphibian pets (Dart Frogs) only once every 3 to 4 weeks as part of a supplement rotation. If egg development is poor or your frog is experiencing “Short Tongue”, it may be given every two weeks but for a limited amount of time only. Over usage can cause vitamin A toxicity which could be fatal in high concentrations. Use a small pinch with the shake and bake method to lightly cover prey insects before feeding to your pets.

Once opened, this product is good for approximately 6 months. You can extend its life by keeping it refrigerated between use.
