The Mini Monkey Pod is the top portion of a Mini Monkey Pot.
Monkey Pods are an excellent way to enhance the look of any naturalistic Terrarium, Vivarium or even an Aquarium! Monkey Pods can be used as food dishes for reptiles, a natural hide for invertebrates, arachnids or a tadpole deposit site for Dart Frogs!
The Monkey Pod originates from the Lecythis elliptica, a large nut producing tree found in the Chocó and Amazon rainforests of South America. This species is closely related to the tree that produces the Ourico Pods.
Each Mini Monkey Pod averages 2.5-5cm (1-2″) in diameter. There are approximately 8 Mini Monkey Pods per package. However, due to the nature of this product there will be natural variations in size and color of each pod. Check our 3-4″ Monkey Pods if your looking for something larger.
When used in an Aquarium we recommend boiling the Monkey Pods for at least an hour to remove any tannins that may be present in the nut. This is to ensure the water quality will not be affected in your aquarium, place the boiled nut in a separate bin of water for a day before adding it to your aquarium. This process will also encourage the nut to sink.
