Zoo Med Terrarium Substrate Draining Mesh
The Zoo Med Terrarium Substrate Draining Mesh is a non-toxic mesh will keep the underlying “False Bottom” (LECA is commonly used) separated from the decorative top-layer soil substrate. It will prevent substrate particles from contaminating the water while still allowing proper water drainage.
A good drainage layer is key to a successfull naturalistic bioactive terrarium set up.
- Measures 46x46cm fits all standard 18×18″ terrariums
- Can be cut to fit smaller terrarium sizes
- Use 2 or more to cover larger terrariums
How To Install The Terrarium Substrate Draining Mesh:
An example of a layered substrate in the terrarium using Leca,for a false bottome, and a bioactive soil:
1. Place your Terrarium on an even surface and clean the waterproof bottom part.
2. Wash the False Bottom Substrate thoroughly and spread it evenly in the terrarium.
3. Create a water part by removing substrate in the desired location.
4. Cover the false bottom with the Terrarium Substrate Draining Mesh, and separate the water section with moss, bark or rocks
5. Add a biological substrate like our Premium Terrarium Soil
6. Plant your live plants, mosses & ferns and cover the top soil layer with leaf litter.
7. Live plants provide shelter, retain moisture and yield nutrients for various organisms but they also absorb ammonium and nitrates in the soil.
8. Add an aquatic substrate like river rock or aquarium gravel to the water part and then add water.
