Do Isopods Need Calcium?
Calcium and other minerals are a vital part of all isopods diet around the world. Isopods require a constant source of calcium to properly grow a healthy exoskeleton. without it they fail to thrive and reproduce. In the wild, isopods are able to source this from fallen trees, leaves, bones, antlers and many other sources
Many species of isopods are discovered around limestone cliffs and quarries such as the Porcellio expansus. Most of the newly discovered Cubaris species are found exclusively in limestone caves throughout Thailand.
Limestone is a sedimentary rock composed principally of calcium carbonate (calcite) (CaCO3). It is commonly composed of tiny fossils, shell fragments and other fossilized debris.
How To Use Isopod Essentials:
Simply place a small amount into the isopods enclosure. They will come to it and eat what they want, when they want it. If you wish to see this, sprinkle some Isopod Essentials onto a cucumber slice and place it into the enclosure. The Isopods will eat the cucumber as well as the vital minerals.
