Jungle Jewel Exotics will NOT be a vendor at the Edmonton Reptile Expo or Calgary Reptile Expos hosted by HREF in May 2024
Sadly, we will not be vendors are the Edmonton Reptile Expo in May 2024. Unfortunately, this is not a decision we made for ourselves. We are incredibly disappointed and frustrated by the decisions and actions made by the Board of Directors of HREF (Herptile Rescue and Education Foundation) formally ERAS (Edmonton Reptile and Amphibian Society)
If you live in Alberta and love reptiles, you have likely been to one of the many Reptile Expos hosted by various organizations within the province. We have been a vendor at all the expos for nearly a decade now. Bringing new innovations, supplies and of course our love of Dart frogs every year! So to be denied with no actual stated reason as to why is incredibly shocking, and to have no explanation when we followed up (multiple times) is even more frustrating.
Below you can read the generic refusal letter we received from HREF regarding our application to the Edmonton Reptile Expo on March 23rd 2024. It took over 7 weeks after we submitted our application (February 1st), with multiple follow up emails inquiring about our status. We received an identical letter regarding the Calgary Reptile Expo a week later.
We have requested an explanation from the current Vice President (now acting president) of HREF for information as to how they came to this decision, however they have declined to answer. Rather they deferring us to their general email membership@edmontonreptilesociety.ca. Whom have also declined to give any true explanation.
Here is a quote from their last response:
“as we have indicated, your application is not approved. As we have previously advised that we are not able to provide details as to the rejection of your application to be a vendor at our Spring Expo”
Jungle Jewel Exotics has been long time members and supporters of the Edmonton Reptile community and we consider it our second home. So to be dismissed with such lack of professionalism is incredibly disheartening.
We will continue to support the Edmonton Reptile community and will look at having exclusive specials for the people of YEG and possibly a Pop up/ Pick up day in Edmonton closer to Expo day. These will be posted on our Social Media pages (please follow if you don’t want to miss out)
Here is the letter they sent to us.
“Dear Applicant,
I hope this letter finds you well. I wanted to personally thank you for your recent application to become a vendor for the upcoming Spring Expo in Edmonton. We appreciate the time and effort you put into completing the application.
I regret to inform you that, after careful consideration, we have decided not to accept your application for the 2024 Spring Expo. Please understand that this decision was based on a variety of factors, including the current vendor selection and the specific needs of the event. While we understand this may be disappointing, we encourage you to apply for the 2024 Fall Expo when applications become available.
We value your interest in participating in our expos and we sincerely appreciate your support. We strive to create a diverse and vibrant marketplace for our attendees, and we encourage you to explore other opportunities to showcase your products and services.
Thank you once again for your application. We wish you continued success in your business endeavors, and we hope to see you at future events.

How can you support us
We will never ask anyone to boycott the Edmonton Reptile Expo 2024 hosted by HREF. We are long time friends with many of the vendors that will be there and still wish them success.
However, if your sole reason was to visit Jungle Jewel Exotics booth, we won’t be there this time.
