The Arcadia Shade Dweller UVB Light Kit is available in 2 strengths of UVB

Each kit includes a light fixture and one 12″ long UVB light. You can select between the 2.4% UVB and 7% UVB light kits. – both bulbs are interchangeble between the two fixtures.

The Arcadia Shade Dweller UVB Light Kit is suitable for all animals that utilize the Fergison Zone 1-2. These are animals that are either Crepuscular or Nocturnal, or live in the understory of the rainforest, that receive low levels of UVB throughout the day

Select the UVB strength that is best for your Reptiles, Amphibians, Birds, Rodents, Arachnids and other Invertebrates needs.

Which Shade Dweller UVB Light Kit should I select?

The 2.4 UVB Shade Dweller Arboreal UVB Light Kit is suitable for arboreal animals that can get closer to the light to bask and benefit from the UVB light. Or in terrestrial enclosures that are 12-18” tall (30-45cm) with a basking zone that’s 3-10” away from the animal. Otherwise, please use the 7.0% for enclosures that are 18″ or taller for these animals

It is also suitable for animals that only require a small amount of UVB daily. Making the 2.4% UVB Light ideal for Crepuscular and Nocturnal animals. – Yes, nocturnal animals can benefit from low levels of UVB from time to time! These are all animals that benefit from Fergison Zone 1.

Use the 7.0% UVB if you keep animals that live in the Fergison Zone 1 or 2, but heir basking zone is 10-18” (25-45cm) away from the light source.

 

Here are some of the animals that benefit from the Shade Dweller UVB Light Kit:

Arboreal Geckos that are Crepuscular or nocturnal such as: Crested Geckos, Chahoua Geckos, Leachianus Geckos all use the 2.4 UVB as they can climb closer to the light source

All Day Geckos, such as Phelsuma, Cameroon dwarf gecko and others require UVB lighting. Select the 2.4 or 7.0% based on the distance of the basking zone.

Turtles and Tortoises require UVB light. The 7.0% is ideal for these animals.

Terrestrial Geckos that are Crepuscular or nocturnal such as: Leopard Geckos, Cave Geckos, Viper Geckos and many others all benefit from some levels of UVB. Use with the 2.4 UVB or the 7.0% depending on how far the basking spot is from the light source

Many Skinks such as Blue Tongue Skink and Fire Skink all benefit from low levels of UVB

Most snakes benefit from 2.4% or 7.0% UVB such as: Ball Pythons, Corn Snakes, King Snakes, Milk Snakes, Hognose Snakes, Boa constrictors. Select the light based on the distance of the light source.

Crepuscular Rodents such as: Chinchillas, Hamsters, and African Soft Furred rats will benefit greatly from low levels of UVB light

Birds, such as parrots require UVB lighting as well. The 2.4% is ideal to create the correct basking zone for your birds

Tree frogs and Dart frogs also benefit from low amounts of UVB light.

Even arachnids like tarantulas and other invertebrates like scorpions benefit from low amounts of UVB light. The 2.4 UVB is ideal for these animals

ProTip

Even though the Shade Dweller UVB lights will emit light for years, it is no longer a suitable strength of UVB for your animals needs, and needs to be replaced annually.

Set a reminder on your phone to replace the bulb 1 year from when you install the light. We also personally like to mark the date of install on the metal part of  the light with a permanent marker, as we have many lights that need to be changed at different times of the years.

*Extra care should be taken if you are mounting the fixture inside in side animal enclosures. Especially snake or reptile enclosure. Please mount a cage around the lamp to prevent the animals from touching the light. the fixture or cables. When possible, mount the fixture outside of the enclosure for everyone’s safety.
